and function of microbial food webs; To elucidate, using molecular biology and biochemistry
techniques, cellular strategies whereby phytoplankton and marine bacteria react to their
changing environment (e.g. nutrient stress, blooms) and, in the process, shape ecosystem
dynamics and biogeochemistry in the upper ocean.

Research Interests: I am interested in the mechanisms controlling phytoplankton
distribution in the ocean. We use two critical parameters namely taxonomic composition
and cell size to determine both causes and consequences of phytoplankton community
structure . My research includes from laboratory competition experiments to global-scale
analyzes of phytoplankton distributions.
