Step 5: Set priorities for action (with schedule)

(Chapter 6 - Putting the Plan Together)

By this point you have gather the information that you need to put together your communities land use planning strategy. You have defined your community’s vision for the future, your community’s environmental problems and needs, and feasible solutions. Now is the time to set priorities for action and produce a coherent plan.

Municipality:

1. Based on your #1 concern for your community and natural resources (Step 3), indicate how GIS technology can be integrated into your planning effort in reference to this top concern.

Community support will be crucial to the success of your plan. As you look at each solution, ask yourselves the following questions about how much support you will have:

2. How can you draw on local capabilities, equipment, and ingenuity to implement GIS in your land use planning strategies?

3. Does your “team” have the resources and capabilities to get this strategy implemented?
