UNDERSTANDING LAND USE REGULATIONS
Offered by:
The Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve’s Coastal Training Program

Welcome to “Understanding Land Use Regulations”! This five-part training resource will give you the background you need to help you understand the laws under the governance of the State of New Jersey, through the Division of Land Use Regulations.

The course is divided into 5 different modules:

  1. An Overview and Waterfront Development
  2. Coastal Zone Management Rules and CAFRA
  3. Freshwater and Coastal Wetlands
  4. Stream Encroachment and Tidelands
  5. A Land Use Planning Web Quest

You may explore any of the five modules. Each module title is specific about the regulations that it covers.

Each section consists of 1) a PDF of notes pages that we encourage you to print and use to take notes as you move through the modules, and 2) the module itself, which is a web-based PowerPoint presentation. Note: You may notice that some of the images load up slowly. If you are using a slower connection, some slides may require close to a minute each. If the slides take too long to upload, we have also provided a link to a PDF version that you may want to use instead.

At the end of each module you will be provided a weblink to an evaluation of the information and the set-up of the training. Please take the time to complete that survey. It should only take about 2 minutes..

If at anytime during the course you have questions, please feel free to contact Lisa Auermuller at auermull@marine.rutgers.edu or at 609-812-0649.

Please click on the “NEXT” button to move onto the modules selection page.
